Learn and develop Ballet technique and terminology

(Dance experience required)

Discover natural movement and flow of the body, using basic dance techniques.

Jazz Fitness: Thursdays 5:00 - 6:00 PM

Stay fit and have fun while learning sassy Jazz dance.

William Tell

Southern Illinois Music Festival

Marion Civic Center

The Southern Illinois Music Festival's production of William Tell, a traditional opera combined with dance.  Willow Street Studios dancers will performing original choreography, by Maggi Soluna, alongside professional opera singers. 

Marion Cultural Civic Center, Part 1- June 7 & 10, Part 2- June 8 & 117:30pm.  

Upcoming Summer 2016 Dance Intensive:

Willow Street Studios, home of Susan Barnes Dance, will be hosting the 2016 Summer Dance Intensive and is proud to introduce Alicia Canterna as the guest teacher.  The Intensive takes place on Monday, July 11 from 12-5:30pmTuesday, July 12 & Wednesday July 13 from 12-4:30pm.  It is open to intermediate and advanced dancers age 11yrs*  through adult.  Classes will cover Ballet, Modern and Contemporary Choreography.  Registration deadline is June 1, 2016.

*11 year old dancers will need to be preapproved by the studio staff.

Alicia Canterna is a native of Illinois.  She began her training with the St. Louis Ballet and finished her classical training and graduated in the top level from the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C. in 2000.

Ms. Canterna joined Company E of Washington, D.C. in 2011 as a dancer, rehearsal director, choreographer and teacher.  With the company she has performed with many world renowned artists including the great Paul Taylor.  With Company E, Alicia travels as a dancer, choreographer, educator and cultural ambassador.  Most recently, she has traveled to countries such as Jordan, Israel and Cuba.

Along with Alicia's professional career she teaches ballet and contemporary in the Greater Baltimore/DC area.  She is a certified Pilates and FLX trainer.  She teaches as a Guest Master Teacher at University of Maryland, American University and The Bryn Mawr School.  She credits her Modern dance training to her professors at Shenandoah University in Virginia.

Guest Instructor, Diana Shepherd, is a dancer pursuing her BA in dance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.  She is finishing her junior year at the University.  Diana has been dancing for 16 years, starting in her hometown of Carbondale, Illinois at Willow Street Studios.  She was a member of the Susan Barnes Dance Company for 6 years and participated in the Southern Illinois Music Festival for 8 years.

During her time at the University of Illinois, she has performed with the Lyric Theater in their production of "Orpheus in the Underworld" and in the Dance at Illinois' November Dance Concerts, Studio One Concert and the Senior Thesis Concerts.  She has worked with the faculty from U of I, Linda Lehovec and Tere O'Conner, as well as guest artist Earl Mosely in his piece, "Journey".
